In
a recent client survey,
we asked our clients several questions about what computer systems
they use, how they use them and what needs and wants they have.
Our first question dealt with the computer operating system
-- the software that makes the hardware run. 59 percent of
our clients use a flavor of Windows while the rest, 41 percent,
use Macintosh. This may surprise you because Mac has a very
small national market share (3 percent). The reason we have
so many Mac people is twofold: San Francisco possesses many
creative talents such as graphic designers, marketing communicators
and artists. A majority of them still use Mac. In addition,
Remain.com is one of the few tech support companies that offers
service for both Mac and PC, and many Mac people are grateful
for our services since other tech support companies have ignored
them.
The specific operating system version ranked as follows: Windows
95, 41 percent; Windows 3.1, 6 percent; Windows NT, 12 percent;
Mac System 7, 12 percent; and Mac System 8, 12 percent. 17 percent
didn't know what version of system software they possessed.
